INDIVIDUALISED STATISTICS COURSEWORK USING SPREADSHEETS

ISCUS is a tool developed in Microsoft Excel that allows a teacher to allocate each student in a class a unique sample from a large source data set, to be used as the basis of a personalised assignment.

The teacher interacts with ISCUS through a seven-step "wizard" to produce a data-generator spreadsheet for use by the students. When a student enters a five-digit PIN into the data-generator, it supplies them with a sample of data in Excel format. Additional facilities allow the teacher to incorporate a sheet of "random" tasks or questions into the student's Excel workbook of data. The teacher may also produce a sheet of answers or key outputs to assist the marking of each student's work.
